Whilst I applaud the 25,000 private homes who have already fitted ShowerPowerBoosters, I express my concern about the policy of Councils and Housing Associations.

For years our Councils and Housing Authorities in the UK have installed electric showers as the only solution offered to tenants. Installing electric showers and combi boilers is a ‘policy decision’ which does not consider improvement of the tenants existing system. Any existing system can provide good traditional showers at minimal cost and could save as much as £5,000 per installation. Electric showers costs the tenant 57p per shower.

A ShowerPowerBooster (SPB) improves low pressures in any home, and for any system, to achieve a good traditional shower if required. The SPB deactivates if you try to get much over 6 litres a minute to limit the cost to 20p each shower. The ShowerPowerBooster is not a Power Shower. It is a low cost easy DIY retro fit installation, with no electrician required, it can be installed in under 10 minutes, with no pipework modifications, and costing as little as £125.

Before the invention of the SPB the alternative to an electric was a power shower. Fitting a power shower for the first time is expensive, and running at 12 to 15 litres a minute means it Is expensive to run (40p to 60p per shower).

In April 2022 the energy cap set prices to be 7p per KW for gas and 28p per KW for electricity. An electric shower heating water can cost 57p per shower whilst if you have a gas boiler it will cost 20p. All homes will be different, but a family of 4 having a traditional shower every day (1,500 showers) will save £360 a year at today’s prices compared with electric showers.

In the past, electricity and gas prices were both relatively cheap, but NOT NOW and this policy is now costing tenants. The increase in the cost of gas to 7p kWh and electricity 28p kWh, announced by Ofgen, is to be increased again in October 2022… there is a better way of doing things!

THE SOLUTION
It is imperative that Landlords allow tenants to install cost efficient traditional showers where the opportunity to replace electric showers exits. Currently Landlords can and do block this.

It is unfair for tenants to suffer from the actions of a landlord who does not pay the bills. It is possible to remove a SPB after fitting and take it to your next home but this just leaves the new tenant with the same problem.

As a small independent UK company, we cannot compete with the major corporations in terms of advertising or commercial/ political influence. We do however have the best product and it is a long proven product protected by a Patent and manufactured by the largest brass manufacturer in the UK.

Please help by spreading the word and seek to influence your MP or local council.
