ShowerPowerBooster Ltd will underwrite the cost of the Norwich Pilots and so the pilots will progress with or without grant funding. Since support from the UEA is critical in establishing lower energy tariffs for consumers and the anticipated hybrid air source heat pumps (which will be 50% cheaper than those currently on the market), the UEA will be funded.
As things progress I will update the presentation on this page with particular attention to the presentation on the 25th July which will be updated on the 25th. Make sure to get to the Thomas Payne Auditorium on the 25th July at 19.00 where you will be able to pick up your information pack and details of how to apply to join the pilots.
The link below takes you to the the abridged presentation given to Norwich City Council and the UEA on the 9th June 2024. Norwich City Council agreed to support the retrofitting of Affordable Heat Stores, however, I am keen to allocate 2,000 heat stores devices to a developer or developers hoping to build in or around Norwich areas where there is not enough water to allow that development to progress (unless my device is fitted and then you will be fine (see page 9 of the presentation)).

Pilot guide to cheaper and better hot water usage and delivery in homes (This post is currently under edit)
or Why do we want you to fit “Affordable Heat Stores” AHS.
WHAT IS AN AFFORDABLE HEAT STORE.
An affordable heat stores gives you the ability to store up to 17 kWh of renewable energy from one week to the next which is enough for 14 “perfect” hot showers one after the next. Whereas a power shower with a full tank of hot water will give you 3 showers if you are lucky. We are not suggesting an entire football team plus officials would want to shower in your home, but they could if you wanted to invite them.
HOW MUCH ENERGY IS USED IN A HOME TO HEAT WATER
In a typical UK household, heating water accounts for roughly 17% of the total energy bill. This makes it the second-largest energy expense, following only space heating. Specifically, hot water usage can consume around 4 kWh per day, but this can vary significantly between households. Homes with power showers deliver inefficient showers that waste water and energy. The biggest users of energy and water are larger families with power showers where each shower can take 2 kWh so a family of 4 having 2 showers a day would consume 16 kWh.
WHAT ABOUT SPACE HEATING/CENTRAL HEATING
Fitting an affordable heat store is the first simple step towards eventually fitting an highly efficient Hybrid Air Source Heat Pump. Without the need to heat hot water, hybrid air source heat pumps are half the size, half the cost, half as noisy, and twice as efficient.
WHY ARE THE NORWICH PILOTS ONLY TARGETING HOMES WITH POWER SHOWERS AND NEW BUILDS TO START WITH
WHY POWER SHOWERS
Power Showers destroy the thermocline in hot water cylinders yet they are accepted by many plumbers as the only way to boost water. They use up to three times the water and energy compared with traditional showers.
The University of East Anglia study has explained how and why a simple device attached to the outside of a hot water cylinder, together with a SP22S ShowerPowerBooster, gives the perfect conditions for a perfect thermocline in a simple body of water, and perfect showers. Customers of ShowerPowerBooster who have replaced Power Showers prefer the perfect showers that a SP22S ShowerPowerBooster creates.
WHY NEW BUILD
The installation of affordable heat stores also allows you to easily provide 48 hours of water storage in new homes. The design of water networks uses maximum flows at peak demand to calculate the maximum number of new homes that can be built. A second storage tank which supplies just toilets and the flow to an outside garden tap. boosted to mains pressure using a ShowerPowerBooster, opens up the possibility of simple and affordable fully automatic rainwater harvesting system to be added later. Only kitchen cold water taps need a direct mains feed.
Controlling the flow of water into the storage tanks means that we can shift demand such that peak demand is only marginally increased. Moving water demand to the early hours of the morning will reduce peak pressures in the water networks. Peak pressures occur at times of minimum demand. Reducing peak pressures will reduce the number of water main bursts. The number of burst water mains which currently take place in the early hours of the morning, will be reduced leading to lower revenue costs.
The supply of drinking water is limited to a maximum throughput volume, through a water works. The water will need minimum contact times in certain process units but there are times of the day, principly during periods of off peak water demand, where water the volume of water that can be treated could be increased.
WHY JOIN A PILOT
Lower Energy and Water Use
With or without an affordable heat store, switching to ShowerPowerBoosters gives you the perfect shower. enough pressure for a great spray of forceful water with enough water flow to wash suds away, even if you have long hair. With the affordable heat store you can have up to 14 showers one after the other or a long hot bath. Whatever you do with the water is entirely your choice.
Free Electricity
As a participant of a pilot we will negotiate the best tariff deal we can with a number of energy companies for you. At first we will provide a simple 24 hour timer so draw the energy only at off peek hours, but we will also provide Gruff Technology, human-friendly automation which can shop around for the lowest energy spot prices. Its intuitive automation empowers individual households to reduce energy costs, lower their carbon footprint.
In the first two months of 2025, Britain paid out £252 million to wind farms to not produce electricity. This amounts to roughly £178,000 per hour, a cost that ultimately adds to customers energy bills. These payments are made to wind farms to compensate them for being switched off to balance the electricity grid when there is excess power. We intend to supply smart technology which interfaces with energy company tariffs in real time and I see no reason why they cannot give you free electricity every time the wind blows or the sun shines. Its going to be a battle to get you free energy because on 10th June 2025, Ed Milliband rejected zonal pricing in favour of a single price for all areas. He thinks its unfair to give customers cheaper power just because there is cheap power in a zone and has opted to pay generators not to generate. Norwich could benefit from being close to the North Sea Wind Farms and local solar farms whereas levelling up prices gives artificially low prices to London. Perhaps Alice McDonald and Clive Lewis would like to fight for their own constituents to get the lower prices you deserve.
We have a simple plug and play solution in mind which retails for under £25 and gives the customer the ability to use an app which automatically shops around for the cheapest tariff.
Read about the technology proved by Gruff.
USEFUL FACTS
A 5 minute Power Shower shower at 12 litres a minute will use 60 litres of water at 42 degrees centigrade and consume 1.9 KW Hr. Off peak electricity is approximately the same cost as gas at 8p per KW/Hr.
Cost of Power Shower using gas to heat the water = 8p x1.9 per shower = 15p
Cost of Power Shower using gas to electricity the water = 24p x1.9 per shower = 46p
Cost of a 6 litres a minute electric shower at peak time = 24p x .95 = 22.8p
Cost of a 6 litre a minute SPB shower = 8p x .95 = 8p
A Power Shower will completely mix a hot water cylinder with water heated with an immersion heater in under a minute so it needs 2/3rd heated to say 60 degrees centigrade.
