For a good shower the pressure and flow are both important. For a tap it is the increase in flow that is more important.

The pressure boost given by two ShowerPowerBoosters is twice the pressure boost of a single such that if a single SPB adds 4 metres heads then two SPB gives 4 + 4 = 8 metres head etc.
The higher the flow rate the less the pressure boost but in general if you double the pressure you increase the flow by 50%. It is the SP1U which is the pump we sell to be installed in series with any other SPB give a double Pressure Boost.

There are taps and shower mixers sold in the Uk which were developed for Europe where minimum mains pressures are 3 or 4 bars. In the UK you can expect only 1 bar mains pressure. Adding a SP1U will give you the 1 bar quoted by the manufacturers of these shower mixers.

Boosting Taps
There are two factors which effect the flow from a tap and I would like to refer to these as the ‘pressure boost’ and the ‘balance boost’.

1.0 The main area of sales in respect to boosting taps is boosting kitchen taps.
2.0 Most kitchen taps are mixer taps.
3.0 The law requires that a kitchen tap has mains water cold, cold pressure = 10 metres (1 bar) minimum.

Pressure Boost
If you double the pressure you increase the flow by 50%

Balance Boost
You get an increase in flow if you balance hot and cold pressures.
This depends on the tap but it is between zero and 25%.

Upstairs showers – Pressure x4 and flow up 100%
Existing head (shower head close to ceiling) = 1 metre
Showerpowerbooster adds 3 metres head

Kitchen tap in bungalow – Pressure up 83% flow up 40% + 0-10% Balance Boost = 40-50% increase in flow = Fairly Happy Customer
Existing head from top of cold tank to level of tap outlet = 2.5 metres
Showerpowerbooster adds 3 metres head.

Two Storey House – Pressure up 54% flow up 27% + 0-5% Balance Boost = 27-32% increase in flow = Unhappy Customer
Existing head from top of cold tank to level of tap outlet = 2.5 + 3.0 metres = 5.5 metres
Showerpowerbooster adds 3 metres head.

The calculations will vary depending on water temperatures and other things but basically people who live in 2 storey houses will probably send the pumps back if all you do is fit a single spb2b

Looking at the two storey houses (which is most homes in the UK), and using the double boost of a SP21S

Two Storey House SP21S – Pressure up 100% flow up 50% + 0-20% Balance Boost = 50-70% increase in flow = Happy Customer
Existing head from top of cold tank to level of tap outlet = 2.5 + 3.0 metres = 5.5 metres
Showerpowerbooster adds 3 + 3 = 6 metres head.
