The WrightChoice Energy Storage Device is a Patented Device. It is set to change the way we use renewable energy and it will help us say goodbye to gas and oil. It can be applied to potable water and for central heating in a home.It stores surplus electricity at night and on windy days in the form of hot water to avoid use of electricity during peak demand.
An optional extra is a controller to only turn the device on when you have surplus PV self generated power. It simply detects when you have sent surplus power from your own solar PV panels to the immersion heater. Its simple to switch from storing your own energy in the Summer to storing surplus gris energy in the winter.
The device works best with a standard ‘inefficient’ immersion heater to to store 300% more useable energy in an existing hot water cylinder. In a typical home without the device and with an existing 210 litre tank, with this device not in operation, there is enough stored energy for 2 showers at 6 litres a minute for 8 minutes each. With this device in operation you will achieve 5 showers with the stored energy. It does work so very well for smaller or bigger tanks.
In operation it moves half of one per cent of the hottest of hot water to the bottom of the tank every minute and in a 210 litre tank the entire tank is circulated in under 7 hrs. The device is whisper quiet and uses less power than a children’s night light.
We have recently changed the design to a self regulating version of the device which does not need Drayton tank thermostats The new version reduces the volumes pumped such that the top 1/3rd of the tank is heated by the immersion heater at a rate close to the rate of heat redistribution. This maintains very hot water in the top 1/3rd of the tank during heat recirculation, and it brings a steady flow of water past the immersion heater, greatly increasing the efficiency of the immersion heater, thus eliminating the need to upgrade your immersion heater.
The advantage of an inefficient immersion heater is that the heating elements rapidly build up a pocket of the hottest of hot water around the elements and the thermostat quickly reaches its maximum temperature. Without the benefit of the recirculating device the immersion rapidly reaches its maximum temperature and cuts out. In operating we envisage that the immersion heater is switched on permanently and the energy storage device operated by a 24 hour timer to only come on at off peak hours.
We are selling this better version of the device to market at a retail cost of £250 (including VAT). There will be discounts for early adopters.
For central heating applications there is a need to avoid stratification during heating. We can do that as well as all we need to do is put in a bigger pump to mimic the effect of a traditional shunt pump.
