Single Impeller Shower Pumps
A single impeller water pump is a pump which boosts the water pressure on either the hot only or the cold only. This type of pump is very useful when the only pressure problem is on the hot or the cold only. It can transform your shower with amazing results. Most shower and tap mixers can deal with a 4 to 1 pressure differential, some can deal with a 5 to 1 pressure differential between the hot and the cold. If your cold pressure is ‘normal’ then 80% of our customers buying a ShowerPowerBooster single impeller pump get away with a single pump.
Gravity hot and cold systems
For a top floor shower room with a cold water tank in the loft, the mixer level (not the shower head), is around 2.0 metres below the bottom water level in the cold tank above. The head created by the header tank is therefore 2 metres which is 0.2 bars. The simple calculation is .2 x 4 = 8 metres (0.8 bars). If you exceed 0.8 bars pressure you will probably unbalance the mixer and end up needing a second single impeller pump on the cold.
A single shower power booster will typically double the flow from a top floor shower, a ShowerPowerBooster will add 3 to 4 metres head to your hot pressure, and as a result 80% of customers buying a single shower power booster for the hot will get away with just one pump on the hot only (£125 with free next day delivery and three years warranty if bought direct from the inventor through Flowflex).

SP2B Fully Automatic
Shower Power Booster
For people who want a hot shower you need to mix 2/3rds hot water with 1/3rd cold water so it should not be a surprise that pumping the hot water only is normally sufficient.
If you cold pressure is very low or you mixer needs balanced pressure on the hot and cold then you will need a pump on the hot and a pump on the cold so you will need a pump for the hot and the cold.

SPB Two Linked Automatic Water Pressure Pumps
The SP2B is a single pump and it will cost £125 with all you need to complete the job (and no electrician required). Two pumps (for hot and cold) you need the SP22S which will cost you £200 for a 2 pump pack.
