An electric shower heats water as it passes through, so it depends entirely on the water pressure arriving at your house. When the mains pressure dips below the shower’s minimum — first thing in the morning, when the whole street is running taps — the shower protects itself by cutting out, or runs boiling hot. It feels like the shower is faulty. Usually it isn’t; it’s simply not being fed enough water.

The SP2B for electric showers is a WRAS-approved automatic booster pump fitted on the cold water pipe feeding the shower. It lifts the incoming supply above the shower’s minimum operating pressure, so the shower stops cutting out and delivers the flow it was designed for. It detects flow and starts by itself, and it runs on safe 12 volts — completely separate from the shower’s own electrics.
The SP2B is the right choice for showers rated up to 8.5 kW: a 7.5 kW shower needs around 3.5 litres a minute and an 8.5 kW around 4.1 — the SP2B delivers this comfortably. A word of honest guidance: the boost any pump can give falls as flow rises, and higher-kW showers draw more flow — so the higher your shower’s rating, the more modest the gain. Q: How do I know it’s a pressure problem and not the shower itself?
A: Run the shower on full hot. If cold water flows much faster out of the head than the heated water, it’s likely a heating-capacity (KW) issue — speak to us before buying a pump. If the flows are about the same, or the shower cuts out, it’s a pressure problem — exactly what the SP2B fixes.
Q: My shower is 9.8 kW. Is the SP2B enough?
A: Start with the SP2B — for many homes one pump does it. If you need more, add an SP1U upgrade pump to make a double boost rather than buying again from scratch. Or go straight to the SP21S if your pressure is well below the shower’s minimum.
